EA doesn't care and is impervious to consequences.
Considering EA destroyed the studio which made the Dead Space games for much less, are Dice and Bioware still working after their shitshows?

It makes more sense when you hear stories about how Halo 2 was rushed or KotoR 2 was rushed, y'know? Big hit game comes out, so they want another one to put out as soon as possible and they had harsh as fuck deadlines to hit. So the game wasn't as good as it could have been and had pretty obvious problems that would have been revealed with more testing and time. Time they didn't have.

But with Anthem, what the fuck is the excuse for making it in 12 to 18 months?

Also, just wanna say that EA itself may be impervious to consequences, but they have no problem killing a game series and firing everyone if it doesn't meet EA's inflated sales quotas. Dead Space had one game go badly before being gutted.

Don't forget that one BioWare studio has already been closed. Well, recently. When EA bought BioWare, suddenly there were about seven or so studios by that name. Three were left up until recently. Now there's only the one in Texas and the original one in Edmonton.
Doesn't really matter anyway since over those six years Edmonton fumbled with the Anthem development dozens and dozens of people left. It's basically an entirely different studio from the one that made Mass Effect 3 and even more different from the one that made Mass Effect 2.

I'm guessing they'll give Bioware one more chance to do something, just like they let Visceral do before they closed them. According to wikipedia (I know), Bioware is massive though, 800 people, what in the name of cuck? Apparently not even DICE is that big. I guess EA is already using Bioware to be the bitch for everything, just transferring devs onto whatever other project needs couple hundred extra hands...

But still, if all they've produced in last 5 years is an underdeveloped, undercooked nothing, this isn't looking good for Bioware. Is there a studio too big to fall under EA? 800 is a lot workforce, and like the article pointed out, they kinda need at least some of them since they certainly don't all work on Bioware stuff, so maybe EA will tear Bioware apart and send some people into remaining studios?

As for the article, quite the interesting read. Shrieker or whatever his name is a bottom feeding bitch (he was crying on twitter about the Bioware corporate reply, apparenly they attached him by releasing a soulless PR response, booo-hooo!), but he can produce a decent article.

The only fault EA had
EA's main fault has always been not caring enough about their products. If they gave at least a little shit, they would observe the Bioware disaster more carefully, instead they just let it rot, fucking oblivious to the issues brewing inside the studio - eh, just give us a moneymaking games as service game, we believe in you guys, or else! Well, the "or else" is likely happening now, maybe after these fuck-ups with BFV and Anthem, EA might start waking up a little bit.

I think you give EA too much credit. The ONLY thing they care about are their profit margins. The nanosecond one of their games doesn't do well, they start gutting and firing. They like proven franchises like the sports games that always sell. 800 employees are less than nothing to them and I bet the employees know it. They don't care how good you are at your job, only how good you are at SELLING.

In an industry where sales are often completely disconnected from quality, EA stands out even among AAA studios as particularly greedy and profit-focused. The entire dead space series is a testament to that. It was ruined specifically because of shit EA wanted the devs to put in and then, when the EA marketing exec ideas ended up sinking the game's profitability, BOOM studio fired.

Even as early as the first game, EA was pushing shitty DLCs. Dead Space 2 had a ton of armor skin/weapon skin dlc and preorder bonus shit.

We like to shit on Ubisoft for being greedy shitheads and they are, but if they were EA, they would have ended the assassin's creed franchise and fired everyone when the third one suddenly did less well than expected. If not then, when Unity was a flop.

It's hard to say what EA could've done. As seen with Dead Space, them influencing too much isn't good either.
I think the whole project was just started off wrong. There was no director with a clear vision and BioWare's approach of having the writing make the game what it is can't work a) with a game that's not a RPG and b) when you have four writers in a few years, almost one every year.
It was never a coherent project.

The most interesting thing will be how EA handles this situation. They could easily come to the conclusion that they gave BioWare too much freedom and didn't control enough, which doesn't bode well for any other studio in the future that may find itself in the clutches of EA.
Then again, you can pretty much write off any studio bought by them either immediately or at least eventually.

I agree with both of you. Too much control has destroyed many interesting projects and studios, but that's a different situation when you're just starting a franchise versus already tried concept that some corporate suit wants to mold into Call of Duty etc.

It does seem like this was doomed from the start with unclear vision and most importantly, the team that fell apart because key people changed several times.

According to that article, they actually needed a lot of Bioware employees for those sport games etc., so that was just me saying that if Bioware was about to go under, I think plenty of people will still be send to other studios under EA.

EA only cares about profits and not to piss off their customers too much, which is why they keep testing waters with what they can get away with. And while I want DICE to burn, I want that cucked cesspool of enlightened Swedes to get fucked hard, they sadly seem too big to fall. I don't really care about Bioware, I like ME1 and 2 and Jade Empires was really good, but I've never played the old classic rpgs. Meanwhile Battlefield used to be my game to go, but they just kept fucking it up more and more until I've given up.

Ah I can understand that. DICE themselves never made a good Battlefield after the first one. The others were mostly fixed by modders that they later hired. The more actual control DICE got, the worse the games got. I think Bad Company 2 was the last passable one.

Good to hear they're reshuffling the Bioware dudes to other projects. Can't imagine them actually needing 800 employees, even if you factor in the writing team for Bull porn.
