Well, see this is why I'd argue that Facebook is just as bad.Poonoo wrote: ↑Tue Feb 05, 2019 10:23 amAt least with Facebook as you said it does have an actual purpose in keeping contact with people you know and knowing what they are up to, and while I wouldn't say it's a great place to talk about things (because after all, it is still social media) it's a hell of a lot better than that cesspool that is Twitter.
I mean, I understand that in theory it has practical use. In theory you could use it to keep up with all your old friends. In theory you could use it to see what they are up to. Of course in practice, these people never talk to each other. I don't use it (any more) but my brother does and he's got some of my old school friends on his. I asked him if he ever talks to any of these people and the answer was of course 'no'. As for finding out what old friends are doing, the ones that actually have lives are usually too busy to update theirs and the ones that don't are the ones whose business nobody wants to know. You know, that type of person who posts everything on social media and it's like 'nobody cares'.
Facebook is a failure as a website of actual practical use, but it's a triumph of social engineering. See, very few people actually like it but almost everyone uses it, because they're drones and they don't want to be left out.
