QFT. Timesplitters was superior to it in every way, the amount of multiplayer modes it had was insane and only rivalled by UT 2004 at the time. Online multiplayer came too late on consoles for that series, by the time Timesplitters 3 came out Halo 2 had a foothold and PS2 online fucking sucked.

Timesplitters 2 had a fucking level editor on a console game, and you could save that shit on a memory card and transfer it to other players. All the extra content that game had would be DLC out the ass today, games like that remind me how bare bones and shitty modern gaming is. But you know, muh "rising costs of development" even though that is a blatant fucking lie and it's actually way cheaper to make games now with UE4 and Unity doing the grunt work for you and Asset Stores having a ton of content making things more productive (as long as you modify them a bit and don't just dump it all in their like a dick), along with other tech advancements making development faster.

Played it again today... I'll admit it's not the best now but multiplayer is still a fun time and it has some features missing in most modern shooters.

But Poonoo, you're not factoring in the totally necessary tens of millions on marketing! How is anybody going to know that some obscure publisher like Ubisoft or EA has a new title in store? Also, what about all those shills they have to pay and journos to smear? That metacritic 85+ rating doesn't just appear by itself, you know.

That's possible, but also super broad and generic statement. It depends what features that would be and surely that doesn't apply just to Goldeneye when it comes to oldschool FPS. Comparing modern shooters (stuff like aiming down the sights, slower movement, maps that aren't mazes and use of magazines) to old school doesn't really make sense anyways.

Yeah, the old school shooters were trying to be games, new ones are trying to be either movies or, in the case of multiplayer shooters, microtransaction simulators. You can't compare games that are going for different things.
