Gary Kurtz has died.

This man was one of the driving forces behind the good Star Wars movies. He was able to say no to Lucas for the stupid crap and helped Lucas realize his good ideas. Lucas fired him after The Empire Strikes Back, and the drop in quality was obvious.

He coincidentally died during the death of this franchise under Disney. There goes the last chance of possibly saving it.

He got fired because he kept Lucas away from the project. Lucas tried to wrest control of the movie away from Kurtz and Kirshner at the 11th hour. They pushed back and wouldn't let Lucas have his horrible cut of the film.

Lucas did the same thing to the Return of the Jedi director Marquand, except nobody stood up to him. Lucas basically directed that one.
