Or alternately "original Nintendo."da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 4:15 amNo. People only ever called it "Nintendo".
"NES" didn't enter anyone's vernacular until the Internet came around. After SNES launched people called it "Regular Nintendo".

Yup. It was only ever called nintendo. So much so in fact that the word "nintendo" literally became a synonym for video games. The phrase "play some nintendo" was often used even when referring to other consoles entirely.

We've used that term "NES" in the UK since the late '80s. Even moreso with SNES.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 4:15 amNo. People only ever called it "Nintendo".

Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
Nintendo was pretty insistent on using "NES" on all their official literature. Just look at any of the early issues of Nintendo Power and it's always "NES" and "Super NES", never "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo". They even have a style guideline for that. I'm guessing they wanted to avoid confusing the console with the company that it was named after.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 4:15 amNo. People only ever called it "Nintendo".

Anyway, I only seen Japanese sources pronounce it "Ness" (which they hardly use, since their version of the console was the Famicom). In U.S. commercials, it was always Any-Ess.

Well, here it was "Nintendo" and "Super Nintendo". Using the actual terminology is a newer thing but only really for the NES. Nobody calls the SNES anything but Super Nintendo. It's just too clunky and pointless.

In the US we called it "Nintendo", and "N.E.S." became more prevalent after the SNES came out. I don't recall anyone saying "Ness" and never "Nezz".

It's funny to see James discuss being an executive producer and a show runner, as well as the basic concept of how a television season works as if these are ground breaking concepts in internet video land.

My family called it a "ness" in the '90s but we're from New Jersey so it's possibly just a regional quirk.da PAC Nigguh wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 4:15 amNo. People only ever called it "Nintendo".
