"food insecure".
Where the fuck did this term come from? We used to say "needy" or "hungry" or "impoverished", but maybe those words were deemed too depressing or not dignified enough so now I keep hearing the poor referred to as "food insecure".
I first noticed it while listening to NPR. "Donate to the local food bank to help the food insecure" (or something like that). And then I searched for it on Twitter and it's all over the place.

"Food insecure" brings to mind someone too shy to bite into his sandwich.
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

I've never heard "food insecure" before, but it is retarded. It sounds like some first world mental problem (like Linkara only eating chicken tenders at restaurants) rather than someone starving to death (which is how I assume it is being used based on the posts here).
I've heard this concept of constantly changing words for things as the "euphamism treadmill". E.g., the "CP" in "NAACP" stands for "colored people", which was an acceptable term when that organization was created, but now it is considered offensive (but "people of color" is OK for some reason).

I listen to NPR here and there and right now they're promoting charity drives for the poor and needy for the holidays, except that they don't say "poor" or "needy". They instead refer to these people as the "food insecure". And they do it so often that it has to be some kind of company mandate. And it was just this weekend that I REALLY noticed it and that it started to drive me crazy.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 11:09 pmI've never heard "food insecure" before, but it is retarded. And then I check Twitter and a bunch of Lefties are using the same term.
I hate it because it seems intended to take the humanity out of poverty and need. It's a weird, cold term that sounds like a programming glitch.
This MAY BE A BIG STRETCH, but because Leftists just seem to love these lockdowns and think that we need more of them, no matter how much it wrecks the economy and closes up small businesses and costs people their jobs, I wonder if applying this ridiculous term to poverty and suffering is their way of dressing it up so that it doesn't sound so bad.
Re: Words and phrases that only assholes use
Sounds like typical socialism to me. Nothing can be stated simply; it has to be as complicated as possible for no reason other than to be complicated and irritating. Also, "poor," "needy," and "hungry" conjures up pictures of freezing old ladies and scrappy kids waiting in bread lines, while "food insecure" makes you think of dots on a spreadsheet.
We're all just cogs in the machine now, comrades.

Giving something a new name means it's almost solved!
Should've called it "color people", or "colorfolk".
(EDIT: Also note how this article claims "people of color" is an all-encompassing term for all non-whites, when in reality it's only ever used to refer to black people.)
I think people came up with special words like "culling" to avoid having to say "mass slaughter of livestock".Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 5:47 amThis MAY BE A BIG STRETCH, but because Leftists just seem to love these lockdowns and think that we need more of them, no matter how much it wrecks the economy and closes up small businesses and costs people their jobs, I wonder if applying this ridiculous term to poverty and suffering is their way of dressing it up so that it doesn't sound so bad.
Some random article on the Chicaco Tribune.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 11:09 pmI've heard this concept of constantly changing words for things as the "euphamism treadmill". So it's the "-ed" part that transforms the noble "color" into a devious hate crime. Now, in 2020, “people of color” often is used to refer to the collective group of non-white Americans. It is offensive to single blacks out as “colored.” That, in part, is because of the painful segregationist history associated with the term prior to the mid-1960s. “Colored-only” restrooms and water fountains are examples of harmful relics of the Jim Crow South that black people had to fight, and die, to remove from American culture.
Should've called it "color people", or "colorfolk".
