I don't get that, either. My father was in for twenty five years and his pension and health care/compensation was phenomenal. The man retired at thirty eight.

It was a mandatory 11-month training for all male adults in the country. Now I'm in reserve service aka if they ever need me, they call me back.

What third world country do you live in

Mandatory service isn't all that rare. Especially not for small countries. Hell, Germany had mandatory service up until a few years ago.

We have that in Norway. I don't even know why we have a military, because I think Russia can take us within 48 hours. There wa acrually news, BIG news here some years where we had bought 12 or so new F-somethings. Like they would fucking matter lol

Also, I was the only one in my class that wanted to go in the military. I went to the... uh, check-up, just because. I failed the first test; hearing. The right ear went well. Then I just sat there for a couple of minutes until they asked "Don¨'t you hear the beeps?" I said "Nope. I'm deaf on my left ear" LOL Did the IQ-test, though. Dunno the answer.

We used to have mandatory service in Britain. I think we got rid of it in 1963. One of my grandfathers did national service, and he showed me his papers.
