I was doing ab workouts today for the first time and I got a pretty bad cramps after I did some reps. I admit I was going a little hard on the weight and when I got up I could just feel it coming on and suddenly the charlie horse hit and I had to stand arched for a good 5 minutes before it finally went away. I'm not finding much advice online but maybe someone here knows what I can do to prevent it?

Other than continuing to work at it I don't really think there's much you can do.

You have to slowly grind your stats up.

This and maybe a bit of magnesium.

What exercise were you doing for your abs? The pain shouldn't be like that when lifting weights, it should be more like fatigue where the muscle aches a bit but is tiring out. It shouldn't be a sharp pain like that, I think your form was shit from ego lifting.

Eat a banana. Potassium relieves sore muscles. Can also drink some milk and get calcium which also helps.

Was using an ab crunch machine, went a tad hard and got a Charlie horse, feels fine now just trying to prevent it from happening again
