I'm proposing a less bright background, but still light enough to read black text.

I found out how to do it. If you want to change the style, go to your user control panel and go to board preferences. "Night mode" will be renamed DHI Classic, it's not 100% accurate though since the background color caused issues with the text due to how this template works, but it's close enough.
