The answer is money. It's a hustle.

As an example https://www.mmamania.com/2017/8/28/1621 ... owtime-ppv
The Nevada State Athletic Commission has released the pay amounts for every fight on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing card, and all we have to say is it's good to be Floyd and Conor. According to the NSAC documents, the two pocketed purses of $100 million and $30 million respectively, and those numbers don't include pay-per-view cuts that are likely to triple the amount made by each man.
So he's probably making that triple amount just to appear win or lose, because he will bring in PPV's.

The McMuffin fight was to cover all his billth. Didn't he owe a fuckload of tax money? Now, it's time to cash in real big so he doesn't have to do jack shit for the rest of his life.

Is he really going to make that much for an MMA fight? He can't fight Irish McGoingToJail now, so who is he going to fight? Ronda Rousey?

Seeing how much dosh he made with that gimmick fight, I'm sure his manager made some really nice deal for him.
What main attraction does MMA have right now? You don't hear much about it these days.

Anderson Silva maybe? He wanted to box a few years back. This is kind of like that. Eh...?!

It would be a mistake for Mayweather to fight in the MMA. Boxers don't traditionally do well

He doesn't have to. He wanted to retire after the show fight against McHamburgler and only did that one because he had fuckloads of debt. Now he sees another chance to cash in big and that he likely will. I'd get my shit fucked in an MMA ring for a couple of millions. The dude's used to getting punched in the face. Easiest pay check ever.

Is he really? I thought his thing was to avoid getting punched in the face.
We'll probably agree to disagree but I think Mayweather's got a lot to lose here. He's got a reputation and a perfect 50-0 record. He'd be a fool to jeopardise that by getting the shit kicked out of him, literally, in an MMA fight. And for what? There's not that much money in MMA, compared to boxing at least.
If he really needs cash after that $300 million payday vs McGregor, then he's got problems. Problems that aren't going to be solved in a ring
