Boy, POC character toys don't sell well, do they?
I was looking at the clearance aisle at Walmart and chuckled at all the diversity agenda characters on deep discount. I should have taken a picture. Even poor Lando Calrissian doesn't sell. Neither does the John Stewart Green Lantern, you know, the one the internet keeps telling us is the most iconic version for millennials and below.

I saw a Rouge the Bat toy in a Walmart clearance section a couple months ago.
I didn't take the bait and I'm still not sure if that was the right decision.

I'm 100% positive it was a glowie bait and had you purchased it, you would end up in several FBI watchlists.

I'm probably already on those watchlists.
It wasn't long after my birthday. Maybe they knew. I almost got it to, uh, "treat" myself.
Last I went to Walmart they had a Sonic toy from the second "live action" movie in the clearance section.
Made me think about what could have been.

Were only the diversity characters on discount, or is this just a sign of general lack of interest in DC and Star Wars?
Though it might just be that the big corporations once again fell for the fantasy that there's this huge target audience of color that would gladly consume your product if only you stopped caring about your actual target audience.

John Stewart not selling well isn't too surprising. Did the guy even have any kind of major appearance outside of that ancient Justice League cartoon?

That might have been part of it. I should have paid more attention. But I noticed a lot of toys from Disney's recent output like Encanto and Lightyear. And also, in America they have black variants of girls' dolls like Barbie and whatever for diversity's sake, and these never seem to sell.

The woke mantra is that kids want to see themselves represented, and I'm starting to wonder if there is truth to that. Because the white majority of kids don't seem to want these products. I'm wondering if even the POCs want them either.

Kids want merch of shit they like. There is nothing to like about Disney's output in recent years, as all their precious little token projects are not aimed at kids, but at the kids' drunk aunts and/or creepy uncles.

The toys kids want have little to do with how well they see themselves "represented". A good chunk of the product they consoom might not even have humans.
Unless you can tell me the ethnicity that each member of Paw Patrol is supposed to embody.

(Chase is obviously white, btw.)
