What is more likely is that they hope to turn it into a holocaust, something that is illegal to even dispute and thus turn into state-enforced truth. Or how about the conquest of Israel by the seven tribes? Even the Nazis took that as legit history.
Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth. You've heard the statement before. Start to realize how true it is. It does not matter how blatant the lie is and how soundly you can refute it!
