The Mother series will forever be just middle-of-the road, average RPGs with quirky writting. The fact that Earthbound gets pushed to being such an "influential" title is only because burgericans got an RPG on their SNES that wasn't as complicated or wordy as FFIV.

No one in America played EarthBound until emulation. The game only had a single production run and advertising that tried to kill the game. NoA had no faith in RPGs at the time. I'm shocked FF made it to the system and even then it was bastardized.
