It's always about muh geo-strategic location. The west is so obsessed with having an "ally" in Turkey that they don't really care if they can even trust him at all.

We're abandoning the Kurds, a U.S. ally. Turkey is openly hostile to them, to the point of being genocidal. I like the idea of leaving Syria but we gave the North to the Turks jerks that aided in funding the Syria civil war to potentially expand their boarders.

The Turks are, at least nominally, the real US allies in this whole situation. They're members of NATO after all.

To quote some comment I read: "The Turks are our allies but not our friends." NATO means little, especially to a "president" with a Saltine complex.
