Unless you're talking fuckloads of oil it's completely worthless. Conquest was a fine thing when "more land" in itself was a net positive. What did you need? Some houses, some land you can use for farms and maybe some dirt roads.
But since the 60s the latest instead you're looking at lots of space that better already has great infrastructure you hopefully don't fuck up during the assault.
