The U.S. was preparing to launch a retaliatory strike against Iran for shooting down an American reconnaissance drone Thursday, but the mission was called off at the last minute, U.S. officials said.

Details about the mission or the reason for the abrupt reversal of plans weren’t immediately known, but officials said a future military response hasn’t been ruled out.

That would be a terrible idea. Iran is the only nation down there that has a proper government that you can deal with politically. Getting rid of Iran (which would be impossible to begin with) would only further the influence of the Sunni terrorist groups. You create a power vacuum there, it'll get filled with worse people, as one can see with Iraq, Syria and Lybia.

Land and resources. We kicked all the Indians and most of the Mexicans when we moved out West, and we can likely do the same.

This is part of my problem with how nobody wants to conquer anything anymore. If we acted like that, we'd still be a narrow strip of land hugging the Atlantic while the savages rode their buffalo all day.

This is why we're sick of pointless wars. If we can't get at least a 51st state out of it, why bother?
