Wilson's stupid ideas about "right to self-determination" for some ethnic groups (but not others) also caused A LOT of problems for European stability post-WWI. He basically forced the creation of dumb, unsustainable, hard-to-defend countries that would only exist to be gobbled up by Hitler and Stalin later on.

He could have left the Soviet Union to collapse under the Wehrmacht and the Nazis would certainly collapse themselves right after due to being stretched too thin. Back in 1917 after Finland gained independence, Mannerheim had a plan to go and take over Leningrad while the russian revolution was going on to help the russian royalists.
