I don't think they will have too much success. There are more flavors of D&D than there are flavors of ice cream. If Mike Mearls and his SJW cronies fuck up 5e too much, people will just play a differen version.

And they can put as much tumblr into their shitty setting books and novels as they want, but in the end of the day they can't force any gaming group to portray Drow and orcs as misunderstood PoC analogues.

As for D&D, what Voice says has already been true, a lot of people have been going to previous editions before 5E tried to go full SJW, just from the mechanics alone. 'Sides, it didn't work for Warhammer, not even after those Warhammer kids books came out, it won't sell now either.

Kinda, if (unofficial) support for those old games never really ended and modding is piss-easy.

There's also a problem for the SJWs in that roleplaying games are a niche hobby of a niche audience. Companies here can't afford to piss off too many people quite as easily as Hollywood and capeshit. Fuckhuge, full-color hardcovers don't sell themselves.
There are a few publishers propped up by their much bigger parent company, but even Hasbro is eternally miffed that D&D is not nearly as profitable as say My Little Pony Magic the Cuckening. 5e had a pretty slow release schedule schedule from the start, just so Hasbro could keep D&D on the backburner for cheap. If those few books released per year will be full of SocJus shit, they are just begging for another fork like Pathfinder to emerge and take away their hardcore fans.

Those fans (or rather the lack of them) are what killed 4e, back when Hasbro was willing to throw way more money at this IP. The game wasn't even bad, just too different for their taste.
They also tried to flex their muscles by removing all PDFs and PoDs of their older editions from online shops, but that just led to people pirating this stuff or making retro-clones. They eventually had to cave in and make those books available again to get in on that oldschool money.
