Re: Movie Thread
It's not like it's dying out or anything. Breaking Bad is still beloved, and Better Call Saul is a strong show in its own right. If Gilligan had come up with a better story for Jesse rather than "watch this character flail around for two hours without Walter White", it would've been fine.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 1:49 pmIt's almost as if they just wanted to get a last, good squeeze out of the show.

But it pretty much is. Gotta get every shekel out of it they can right now. Breaking Bad proper is over and there isn't really much to do with it left. Gotta strike that iron while it's still moderately warm.

Re: Movie Thread
There really is nowhere of substance for Breaking Bad to go. It was the story of some lame ass chemistry teacher who became Scarface. Even Better Call Saul, as decent as it is, is superfluous (season 4 is shit though, especially without Michael McKean).

but at the same time, I think the show did a huge mistake by focusing so much on Jimmy's relationship with his brother. It aimed at a similar character transformation as Walter White rather than what it should have been - a more comedic show about Saul's exploits with Mike as his straight man, that doesn't connect to Breaking Bad at all aside from the occasional in-joke.

Re: Movie Thread
That being said, I wouldn't call it superfluous either, because both Saul and Mike are far superior characters after watching it. Especially the episode where we see Mike kill the cops who killed his son. That was Banks's best performance.

And where to go from here? Explore the epic past or future of Walter White's mail man? Just let a good show fucking be finished already. It's already one season and one spinoff show too long.
It's a big part of why The Wire is as great as it is. They had a story to tell from multiple angles and took their time with it - but when they were done they actually stopped.
Breaking Bad was already cheapened with superfluous shit (Yes, Better Call Saul is entirely superfluous. You didn't need any of that show.), just make it stop already before it becomes Joey.

this always pisses me off when you say it lol
the only thing the season 4 finale accomplished was killing Gus, who wasn't even introduced until halfway through the show. You don't even get to see Walt as Scarface until the last season, let alone his fall and demise that the whole show built up to.
That you see it as an appropriate finale is so fucking awful

What I see as an appropriate finale is the actual finale of the show until it blew up after production was done and they decided to quickly make more to keep the dolla dolla billth y'all train going.
Tell me again how Season 5 was a game changer.

That the show's original ending was there doesn't really matter all that much to me. It's just such an inferior ending compared to the actual one. Nothing resolved apart from an arc that lasted two seasons of a 4-season show. It's like preferring the Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings ending.
