They didn't have to make a DC semenmatic universe at all.
You could counteract that by saying its the greatest film of all time because without it we wouldn't have the plane scene.

Yeah, but that was just a Superman film. They could've made superior sequels later, because the actors weren't terrible. What fucked up the DCEU was Batman V Superman, when they introduced a million new characters and story arcs at once. Justice League and Suicide Squad mopped up after that shit(and like mops, they covered themselves with the shit as a result) and the rest have been unrelated one-off films.
