Sheeat, know I have to admit that I've only really seen Das Boot and U-571 (aka that movie about British soldiers trying to steal an Engima machine, except the movie made them Murrican for some reason). Just figured Das Boot would be the gold standard. I mean, why would you not capitalize on the claustrophobic environment?

Welcome to modern year. There won't be another Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers that follows just the men in combat. No, now we have to devote half the runtime to wives and mothers and girlfriends at home, where their bravery is far superior to those ignorant cavemen playing war.

Doesn't have to be modern year. Almost every single German war flick is like that since at least Pearl Harbor (which appears to be somewhat of an inspiration for our folks in terms of romance bullshit). They even made a Red Baron movie where the stronk love interest turned the Red Baron into a pacifist.

(I think Stauffenberg movies are relatively safe from romance bullshit. Not entirely sure, though.)

Just started re-watching the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries, awesome show as always, sure the cg is a bit dated but the story and characters make up for that.

I've only watched season one of the Expanse, it's a good show but wasn't too invested in the story, crazy plot involving alien some alien thing, though Thomas Jane was the best actor in the show.

The crew is in a constant state of arguing and there's this very artificial power struggle between the two highest officers in command. Very realistic considering U-boat crew supposed to consist of well-trained highly competent professionals.

The people who write these things nowadays have never experienced competence, don't understand professionalism and are confused by the idea of not hating everyone around you all the time.
