I never watch tv, but I was flipping stations the other night and one of these small-time tv channels was running 3 hours of babylon 5, of all things.

I forgot how comfy that show can be. It's not as good as TNG or deep space 9, but I think it does handle the military chain of command and polidicks stuff pretty well.

Babylon 5 was okay. There's something about those shitty early-90s Playstation effects that make me feel right at home.

The effects really didn't age well, but at least Kosh was a pretty cool practical costume.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is it's pretty obvious in DS9 that a lot of the different political parties on the station outright hated each other. In season 1, there's very little respect between Kira and the Bajorans with regard to the Federation. The Bajorans only start to like the feddies when one of them becomes their messiah, lol. And Ducat gave DS9 so much life. He provided a viable alternative to federation philosophy. He was "evil" at the very end, but prior to that he was just some guy who wanted power and didn't like the federation or respect bajorans. He gave evil a very human face, quite unlike the weird space shit in Babylon 5 with the stupid evil alien darklings.

Amen to that. DS9 in general is prett interesting because the Starfleet characters are pretty much a minority, and you get to see a lot of how the "outsiders" operate. Especially the Cardassians were loads of fun, since they didn't quite fit into a simple archetype like say the Klingons or Ferengi.

It's a shame my last viewing of B5 was at least a decade ago, so my memory of that show isn't fresh enough to properly compare them.
