Claiming to have created "Alternative", which is anything from Pop Rock and Arenashit to Buttrock and random kinda Punkpop bullshit is a claim as retarded as buying a star or a plot on Luna.

Nigger, "Alternative" is basically "dunno, but someone plays a guitar, file it under 'other'". It's the bane of summer job CD store clerks, struggling to figure out whether to put Creed under Rock or Pop.

Defined the sound of literally un-fucking-defined.
Good fucking riddance! A legacy of having defined fuckall. Making a filing for confused CD store owners. Just like the black bin of trash. "Non-recyclable". Not plastic, not paper, not compost. Just the "anything else" bin.

As his work so was his retirement. Early? Late? Work beyond it?
Nah, just die at 61, file it under "Alternative Retirement".
Rest in piss, Faggot.

"Alternative" is for special snowflakes who like to go "I like [genre], but different".

Albini didn't create "alternative rock" and he's never said that he did. I've never heard anyone say that except for the bot here.

He was an interesting guy who had a hand, as the recording engineer, in many beloved records in my life (by the likes of Silkworm, The Dirty Three, Low, and other bands I doubt anyone here would care about). When he was young, he was what the kids today call an edgelord. Posts about Albini have been all over muh social medias for that past 24 hours and it's been funny to see some friends of mine self-censor when mentioning his old band Rapeman (they type it as "R*peman").

Probably his biggest impact , for people my age at least, is that he embodied this very 90s idea of "integrity" in music and hating bands who "sell out" and who aspire to be rock stars. Records should capture what the band naturally sounds like live and not be too "produced" and they're best heard on vinyl, DAMMIT! He didn't create that attitude. It was already a part of the culture, a development from 80s underground punk and post-punk. But Albini was very articulate about it and was not afraid to bash bands that he hated, which many of us old indie-rockers found entertaining..

He became an annoying liberal eventually, but his music was still good. I saw his band Shellac about twenty years ago and they were intense and great.

He created an alternative lifestyle.
Apparently this Steve Albino guy is a pedophile. I keep seeing exposes about him hanging out with peds and saying he loves seepee.

He outright promoted a magazine for it, and talked about his friends being upset when he showed it to them, implying he owned the stuff.
