Maybe I will check online for some plot points in dragonar because i don't want to torture myself in vain in case it worth a rewatch. Tomino do those weird changes of tones in some of his series and also it shows in L-gaim, another series that I dropped because it was like the start of ZZ but on steroids.

Come to think of it, I might get around to rewatching those two series. Lord knows they're better than anything on tv right now, be it cartoon, animu or whatever series.
Good point, or maybe you can't wait for the code gayass movie in the meantime

Btw someone watched the remake of legend of galactic heroes? how bad it was?

Nice to see someone else hit peak autism levels for Gundam besides me. Prototypes and later souped-up or modified versions of existing suits are the Feddies bread and butter while Zeon went on with making Zaku's and perhaps a platoon of Goufs and one or two Dom and went full retard with the experimental technology that it ultimately cost them because unlike the feddies, who had the sense to improve on their mass produced units, Zeon just stayed in their confort zone because they had fine memories squishing soldiers with shitty Zakus back in the one year war, before the Jims or the Guns were deployed. One of the most horrifying scenes portrayin that was the psychosis-filled episode "Shoot at that Death!" of MS Igloo 2, with the only surviving member of a human platoon getting squashed by a Zaku after he pulled a miracle victory against two others, while grinning psychotically as the foot was lowering.

Gundam Battle Universe is the best one since you have to go through hell to unlock the famous "Limiter Release" and you can feel the Gundam power levels way too much there.

Nigguh, you crazy? As for nu-Galactic Heroes, if Kugel's rage-fuelled sperges about NuDoom are anything to go by, imagine that, multiply it a thousand fold and just imagine this rage directed at Nu-GH.

I'm just curious about how bas it was, maybe someone sacrificed and can compare with the good version.

Yeah, I noticed that. AFAIK, Vanilla Gundam only had a single actual Gundam for the entire One Year War. But then every spin-off that happened to be set during the OYW seems to hand out custom Gundams to everyone.
There was more than one Gundam. Amuro even got resupplied with one later. The reason for that is White Base was being used as a testbed for combat-testing new technology after its repeated successes. But the Gundam was a prototype unit not fit for mass production. Amuro started piloting it in the research area where it was built, along with the Guncannon and Guntank. The Gundam was just too expensive to equip to soldiers, so the Federation designed the GM using the basic Gundam design. A GM is essentially just a mass-produced, shittier Gundam. It was still superior to the Zaku Mk II, which was Zeon's main mobile suit for a majority of the war.

Guncannons and Guntanks went on to be mass-produced. Guntanks were extremely useful in the ground war because artillery always is. Norris goes after the Guntanks in 08th MS Team because those are the real threats to the military situation on the ground at that time.

The Ground type Gundam is just a souped-up GM. The ground GM and ground Gundam aren't that different. Unlike the prototype Gundam, the Ground Gundam is not equipped with any laser weapons except a single beam saber. It only has a single vulcan cannon, rather than twin vulcans. The primary weapon it carries is typically a machine gun comparable to what Zaku II's carried. Or sometimes a long cannon for artillery shelling. Obviously, for marketing purposes, the Gundam was created by the show's writers so that a series called "mobile suit gundam" would have a Gundam in it. But it's just a GM.

The Alex is another prototype. Basically all gundams in the UC 0079 war period were prototypes. The feddies only perfected mobile suits late into the war, and they went with the GM and Guntank Mass Production Model as their workhorses. Stardust Memory shows an even greater amalgamation of technology in the immediate postwar, where GMs and Zakus are being heavily modified to the point they surpass the early prototype gundam models. And then you have Zeta Gundam era suits like the Hizack which completely eclipse earlier technology while still being mass-produced.

Sorry for the excessive autism.

If you ever want a really good UC mobile suit gundam game, there are a couple I can suggest that accurately portray the feeling of the different MS strengths relative to each other.

First of all, love this thread.

Second, didn't one of the Ground Types use a beam rifle at some point? Or is my memory faulty per usual?

I know Seed gets a lot of shit, but I thought they did an interesting take on the human vs. evolved human hate.

I think the writers intentionally wanted parallels drawn between the Allied and Axis forces in WW2. Germany found the Panzer design early into the war and they dominated with it for a long time. But the gap slowly closed and there were other mitigating factors like air superiority which removed the punch from German armor.

Zeon had a lot of Rick Doms near the end of the war, but other than that, they were pretty much using Zaku IIs and even Zaku Is. Zeon's design philosophy was fucked tbh. They hit upon one really great design: the Zaku II. And they mass-produced that. But then everything else was some kind of prototype. Goufs were just Zakus. Zaku S-Types weren't common. The Gyan was retarded. They had a few aquatic suits for some reason. >_> Zeon kept chasing superweapons and forgot to make sure the line troops had anything better than a Zaku II.

I think this was the point where the writers kind of fucked up by wanting to have toy commercials in 0079, where Amuro would smash the latest big bad prototype robot of the week. By contrast, the federation were the sensible ones building shitloads of GMs and mass produced guntanks/guncannons.

I think you see them using beam rifles once or twice in 08th MS, but the majority of Ground Gundams are using conventional machine guns and artillery pieces. There might be a part where some allied Ground Gundams are using a laser artillery piece fed with a hose, but I can't remember.

I mean, even GMs can use beam weapons. They just aren't issued any aside from spray guns because it's too expensive.

Beam spray gun. The weapon nobody wanted to get stuck with.

Coincidentally I was reading up on the different mobile suit manufacturers from UC earlier so I can weigh in a bit here. Zimmad made the excellent Dom/Rick Dom designs, but they also shit the bed with the Gyan, Zudah, and the Gogg, which was arguably the worst of the amphibious Zeon suits.

Zeonic on the other hand was the chad company with designs such as the Zaku II and most of its variants, the Gouf, Acguy, and the ultra chadtacular Gelgoog, which was a kickass suit, not to mention the rad Kampfer.

MIP was the oddball who gave us weird shit like the Zakrello, Dopp, and Bigro. They did however give us the Z'Gok which is a kickass suit on land and in water if you ask me.

Apparently the Gyan was intended to rival the Gelgoog...that's fucking hilarious.

I've been reading John Steakley's Armor and it got me thinking of an older series that I love that also has mechs. I remember Bennett the Slob from Channel Autism didn't like it so it can't be that bad right? That dude had shit taste. I enjoyed it because the series was reasonably bleak, and the main character had to learn and train to become stronger and wasn't just at peak performance. That and Marlene is a nice middle finger to what SJWs think capable female characters should be. She was tough as nails and hardened but had her own vulnerability as ANY human would, especially in such a hopeless world.

Those damn Minovsky particles don't come cheap goy, OY VEY! And somehow we can mass produce them up the ass by the time Zeta rolled around. It's just another reason to be satisfied with the chief's ultra smug refusal of a seat in Jaburo at 08th MS team during the two final episodes.

And it's quite the opossite tictac, Tomino, good old Kunio "totally-not-Wolverine" Okawara and Yasuhiko Yoshikazu turned in a very "Super Robot"-like main mecha to have kids yearn for its toy(it's why Gundam has so many combinable parts and is designed more like a toy, rather than a plastic model, like in later series) :

Original :

Redesign :

Fucking night and day. That's because the main trio wanted the whole robot conflict to be more gritty andhave their robots look more like war weapons rather than super heroes. That's why the Zakus look like they do and the Guntanks were made. But the sponsors pushed them, so they made the main character use the magical Super Robot knock-off and they focused on making all kinds of weird designs for the grunts. Boy, god for them that the sponsors pushed, because while Japan wanted to bang Char and Sieg all the Zeons, nobody bought the Zakus. Nobody. That would have killed Gundam in an instant if the toy sales were that bad back then, especially during a time period where Sunrise was still a shitty, humble studio that was occasionally visited by their Yakuza-sponsors. Heck, there's a story about Tomino insisting that the thing shouldn't be a toy commercial and instead should be treated as a serious, dramatic anime like Dororo or Astro Boy and the sponsors were so agasped by his claims that they let him actually do the whole "real robot" thing instead of making Gundam a Mazinger knock-off.

Of course others followed that train of thought later, with Votoms starting like that and becoming huge with figures and statues after the first OVAs, with Macross not being interested in plastic models but music initially but due to Kawamori's excellent plane designs, sponsors flooded and offered him deals that would make Tomino eat his glasses. And the list goes on.

Well not much to add to tictac autism in the ms development in 0079, in the first months of the war the feddies mostly had conventional equiment like planes and tanks and balls, and with minovsky particle zeon just gangbanged the feddies with all their ms development until the feddies got the results of v program with the gundam and the mass produced units.

I like seed despise his flaws, of course takes the structure of 0079 and the tech tree development is decent, and of course after the freedom appears with the beam spam kinda ruin the strategic part of the series, they could have explained that the nuclear powered gundams had some cool off to avoid keep doing the beam spam but I dont recall in any part of the series where they mentioned that, at least in the final part of the series they compensated with druggies teamwork as enemy until the final battle when got even more beam spam with the meteor  . about characters and plot in general thats another story.
