Batman Beyond didn't get cancelled. Bruce Timm has explained this numerous times. An American cartoon show usually only runs for about 65 episodes. That's the minimum needed for syndication. All the DCAU shows hit that threshold (B:TAS exceeded it) and JLU was the only one where they wanted to do more but the network, for whatever reason, weren't keen.

First time I am hearing this with BB just Timm wanting to stop the show for syndication. He always wanted to continue the story. Hell they did have a second movie they were thinking of doing and were in the early parts of planning it until Return of the Joker didn't do so well. That stopped BB in its tracks. Part of that movie did get used in Epilogue in the Season 2 finale of JLU.

That's not uncommon and doesn't mean they necessarily wanted to continue the show proper. They had a Justice League DTV set between JL and JLU that got shelved and eventually made as Crisis on Two Earths. They also did Mystery of the Batwoman and Superman: Brainiac Attacks (that were both shit), years after TNBA and S:TAS had ended
The only two shows they had explicit desire to continue but didn't were Superman and JLU. With Superman they decided to do Justice League instead and with JLU Cartoon Network were closing it all down (JLU, Titans, some others)
