I told some young Japanese guys about this a few years ago and they laughed. They said a girl that innocent does not exist anymore now because of the internet. Everybody has seen uncensored internet porn over there.

Bathrooms rules often dictate that you must never be naked(you often wear that privates towel which is separate from the head and body towel) but the thing about uncensored porn is...quite interesting. The reason japanese people don't often wonder to english sites or just go straight to pornhub to get their kicks off is due to some weird convoluted server thing that Japan does IIRC, where it's a mixture of both spying on your pc to stiffle piracy(on local japanese products of course, who cares if you go to dl filthy gaijin mobies) and because their servers plain suck when trying to do anything beyond japanese wiki and japanese yahoo. At least last time I checked, way back when...I know the piracy thing is still a thing because there was this japanese guy that was leaking Jump issues to the west as raw and episodes of One Piece and they caught him a year ago, while gaijin leakers are never caught.

I don't really know much about the bathing culture. I never did it. I'm not Japanese, I'm an American, and paying money to sit in a tub/hot spring with a bunch of naked Japanese dudes didn't sound like fun to me or in any way relaxing. But most of the other East Asian and Western Gaijin I knew would do it during school trips and such to fit in. Most of the Muslims would not as it was offensive to Allah or whatever, though we had this one cool Bengali friend that admitted to us that he broke all kinds of Islamic rules like that because he wanted to "do as the Romans".

As for porn, there seems to be several Japanese language porn sites based on US servers used to get around the censorship law. Some of them are subscriber based, some are free, many of them are spammy scam sites. These "not"-Japanese websites are where most of that uncensored Japanese porn comes from.
This young Japanese friend of mine was a fan of Ai Uehara and I showed him how to use sukebei.nyaa.si to torrent her uncensored videos.

I have no idea what using the net over there is like now. When I lived there in 2000 in hicksville, most people didn't even know what the internet was and the only way to access it was in the college computer room during workday hours. It was still the wild west days back then when you could do anything on the internet. I was downloading stuff from USENET all the time and also using some P2P program like WinMX. I don't know if I'd ever do that now. I have some (American) friends over there and they refuse to use torrents because of how draconian Japan's copyright laws have become. They'll ask me to just burn physical Blu-rays and snail mail them instead because that isn't so dangerous.

Nips used to get shit off Perfect Dark but AFAIK its ded. I used to use it to get raw manga and music, with mixed success. I've really been hurting since Baidu locked down most of its DDL servers too. Lost a lot of good shit in a dead HDD with no backups.
I've thought about burning Blu-rays as a backup mechanism (I just had a SSD blow up on me, I have bad luck with storage devices) but tape drives are much cheaper per GB, problem is the drives are so expensive, while burnable BDs are about the same as whatever a HDD costs per GB these days (I also don't have a BD drive.)
Are you sending over transcodes of video content or like, bootleg full BDMVs? Theres sites where you can download that shit after all. Could probably play them in a real BD player. Maybe.

Sometimes I download full BDMVs or DVD ISOs.
Sometimes I'll just burn a disc full of mkvs, mp4s, mp3s, FLACs, whatever.
He'll do the same for me. He won't send me any media over the net and only through snail mail.

I totally don't blame him, I would not want to end up in a Japanese prison. Like one time on was on a train and this crazy guy grabbed this schoolboy (maybe junior or senior high school age) and started shaking him like a ragdoll and screaming in his face. My first instinct was to get up and deck that guy (I was still in my early 20s back then) and be a hero.... and then I thought about possibly ending up in a foreign jail and so I just sat there and did nothing.

Depends. Does groping and slopilly fingering office ladies and ronery / homely housewives from stop to stop counts as rape? Never insinuated as much. The muslim thing is quite fun considering how turkish baths over here just allow you to do what you described(I heard you can also get an oily massage but I ain't payng to see if it'll be some hairy turkish girl or Mustafa with his sausage hanging) where old greek bathing rules and japanese bathing rules dictate you have to be somewhat decent and mind your manners, even in saunas / hot springs.
