I'm just curious about how bas it was, maybe someone sacrificed and can compare with the good version.
rabidtictac wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 11:41 pmThere was more than one Gundam. Amuro even got resupplied with one later. The reason for that is White Base was being used as a testbed for combat-testing new technology after its repeated successes. But the Gundam was a prototype unit not fit for mass production. Amuro started piloting it in the research area where it was built, along with the Guncannon and Guntank. The Gundam was just too expensive to equip to soldiers, so the Federation designed the GM using the basic Gundam design. A GM is essentially just a mass-produced, shittier Gundam. It was still superior to the Zaku Mk II, which was Zeon's main mobile suit for a majority of the war.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 11:20 pmYeah, I noticed that. AFAIK, Vanilla Gundam only had a single actual Gundam for the entire One Year War. But then every spin-off that happened to be set during the OYW seems to hand out custom Gundams to everyone.
Guncannons and Guntanks went on to be mass-produced. Guntanks were extremely useful in the ground war because artillery always is. Norris goes after the Guntanks in 08th MS Team because those are the real threats to the military situation on the ground at that time.
The Ground type Gundam is just a souped-up GM. The ground GM and ground Gundam aren't that different. Unlike the prototype Gundam, the Ground Gundam is not equipped with any laser weapons except a single beam saber. It only has a single vulcan cannon, rather than twin vulcans. The primary weapon it carries is typically a machine gun comparable to what Zaku II's carried. Or sometimes a long cannon for artillery shelling. Obviously, for marketing purposes, the Gundam was created by the show's writers so that a series called "mobile suit gundam" would have a Gundam in it. But it's just a GM.
The Alex is another prototype. Basically all gundams in the UC 0079 war period were prototypes. The feddies only perfected mobile suits late into the war, and they went with the GM and Guntank Mass Production Model as their workhorses. Stardust Memory shows an even greater amalgamation of technology in the immediate postwar, where GMs and Zakus are being heavily modified to the point they surpass the early prototype gundam models. And then you have Zeta Gundam era suits like the Hizack which completely eclipse earlier technology while still being mass-produced.
Sorry for the excessive autism.
If you ever want a really good UC mobile suit gundam game, there are a couple I can suggest that accurately portray the feeling of the different MS strengths relative to each other.
I think the writers intentionally wanted parallels drawn between the Allied and Axis forces in WW2. Germany found the Panzer design early into the war and they dominated with it for a long time. But the gap slowly closed and there were other mitigating factors like air superiority which removed the punch from German armor.ban wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:06 amNice to see someone else hit peak autism levels for Gundam besides me. Prototypes and later souped-up or modified versions of existing suits are the Feddies bread and butter while Zeon went on with making Zaku's and perhaps a platoon of Goufs and one or two Dom and went full retard with the experimental technology that it ultimately cost them because unlike the feddies, who had the sense to improve on their mass produced units, Zeon just stayed in their confort zone because they had fine memories squishing soldiers with shitty Zakus back in the one year war, before the Jims or the Guns were deployed.
I think you see them using beam rifles once or twice in 08th MS, but the majority of Ground Gundams are using conventional machine guns and artillery pieces. There might be a part where some allied Ground Gundams are using a laser artillery piece fed with a hose, but I can't remember.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:28 am
First of all, love this thread.
Second, didn't one of the Ground Types use a beam rifle at some point? Or is my memory faulty per usual?
I know Seed gets a lot of shit, but I thought they did an interesting take on the human vs. evolved human hate.
Beam spray gun. The weapon nobody wanted to get stuck with.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:33 amI think you see them using beam rifles once or twice in 08th MS, but the majority of Ground Gundams are using conventional machine guns and artillery pieces. I mean, even GMs can use beam weapons. They just aren't issued any aside from spray guns because it's too expensive.

I like seed despise his flaws, of course takes the structure of 0079 and the tech tree development is decent, and of course after the freedom appears with the beam spam kinda ruin the strategic part of the series, they could have explained that the nuclear powered gundams had some cool off to avoid keep doing the beam spam but I dont recall in any part of the series where they mentioned that, at least in the final part of the series they compensated with druggies teamwork as enemy until the final battle when got even more beam spam with the meteor . about characters and plot in general thats another story.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sun Feb 03, 2019 12:28 amI know Seed gets a lot of shit, but I thought they did an interesting take on the human vs. evolved human hate.
