I still like the Space Dracula idea. I get that good writing could make anything worthwhile. But the 'prideful aristocrat supramacist who wants order idea' doesn't do much to distinguish the character from the prideful order-seeking aristocrat who actually succeeds (the Emperor).
He just looks like an inferior version of the one that worked, instead of being something unique in his own right.

I've never really seen Palpatine as traditionally aristocratic, though. As his true dark side self, he's just basically an asshole of the highest degree, not that far removed from Freddy Krueger in terms of personality. In the Senate, he's iron-willed, but generally quiet, reserved and devoted.

Dooku, on the other hand, is the guy who's dedicated to the "proper way of things". He's the artistic perfectionist sort with the twelve different forks for each dish, who scowls at a speck of dust and duels as if it was a show every time. If he wasn't busy being a Sith Lord, he'd probably dominate book clubs and hold piano concerts.

Actually, here's the simpler answer - Palpatine is an American, Dooku is British.
