BTW, I actually learned about the stupid expanded Disney EU and this is actually explained, although it's still contrived as hell.

Basically, after the end of ROTJ, the galaxy split in two, with the Imperial Remnant and the New Republic splitting it up and both agreeing to disarm down to the bare minimum. Then a bunch of Imperial radicals buggered off to become the First Order and Leia organized muh Resistance to counter them, which the New Republic mostly refused to help because it would violate the peace treaty.

Of course the Imperial Remnant hasn't been mentioned at all in the movies because it was obviously made up afterwards to justify the galactic retardation of Disney Star Wars. #ResistSnoke is still a retarded name. They should've called themselves The Watchmen or something, because they aren't resisting, they're fighting for the status quo (just like REAL #Resist celebrities, maybe this is more based than we thought! ). It also doesn't explain where The First Order's near limitless resources come from, since despite actually being a fringe terrorist group according to muh deep lore, they keep building giant Death Stars and capital ships that keep getting destroyed because they're all retarded, just like everyone else with authority in Disney Star Wars.

Their limitless resources are really bugging me. They can turn an entire planet into a Super-Saiyan Death Star, have a flagship so fuckhuge it could technically be used as an aircraft carrier for Star Destroyers, and they have an entire brainwashing program for their troops or something.

What's up with this anyways? Did the old Empire have a bunch of super weapons (that would've totally turned the war around), or have they fund this star foundry (or whatever it was called) from KOTOR 1?

Thinking more about it, they could've made this really topical. The New Republic could've been like some kind of UN or EU, trying to do things the right way this time around, while ending up slow and inefficeint because the representatives of thousands of worlds spend most of their time arguing with each other.
The First Order on the other hand could've been some populistic grassroots movement using whatever kind of internet they have, pondering about the glory days of when they only had one dude in charge and calling themselves the Alt-Empire.

The Force Awakens came out in 2015, when nobody thought Trump or Brexit would win, at least not in Hollywood. Jar Jar Abrams was just copying the OT because he's a lazy hack. It was only after the 2016 election that Twitter tards started using #resist, which they probably got from the movie because most of them are pop culture obsessed retards. Then REEEan Johnson and other lefties made the parallels more deliberate, but it's all still retarded and doesn't work.

All of this is way too complicated for JJ Abrams. Remember, he wrote TFA while filming the damn movie. He was literally writing the next scene while waiting to film the current one. Easier just to edit some names on the ROTJ screenplay and call it a day while everyone praises him as OMG THE NEXT SPIELBERG, forgetting that OMG SPIELBERG actually made a couple of watchable movies.

Executive Decision came out in 1996 and the villains were Muzzies. I think they were supposed to be Iranian though (at least they looked it), which is like a compromise between white terrorists and Muslim terrorists.
