You'd think battle mode would make it easier to find the buttons you need to press.

It's derived from submarines. It's like space fighting ships dogfighting as if they were planes and there was atmosphere. It makes no sense but it feels "right".VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 4:56 pmYou'd think battle mode would make it easier to find the buttons you need to press.

Duuuude, there's been like one episode in all of Trekdom that actually treated the ships like subs.

What episode? The thing I thought of was Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 8:31 amDuuuude, there's been like one episode in all of Trekdom that actually treated the ships like subs.
Anyway, I guess you could argue that dimming the lights for battle kinda makes sense to have less visual distraction from the viewscreen, as long as the controls light up enough to stand out. It's also funny because the Klingons have been fighting in the dark since the original series movies and in that case you just kinda excused it because heavy metal viking aliens.

"Balance of Terror" to be specific. It was an actual submarine thriller story re-written slightly. Possibly one of the best, maybe even the best episode of TOS. It's the one where Spock is being suspected as a possible spy because they realize that Romulans are basically the same race as Vulcans.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:30 pmWhat episode?
Anyway, battle mode is fine. It works because subs, helicopters and aeroplanes basically have that. Tanks aren't especially bright inside either. Doesn't have to make too much sense because it kinda feels right. It sets the mood for serious conflict time.
But when they are just casually cruising around it really shouldn't be that fucking dark.
