God Emperor of Dune is a massive slap to the face. Not just that, it gets worse from there, because the retarded fuck witch nonsense doesn't even properly start until the next book.
And thus another franchise was ruined by not being content with being a trilogy.

Well, it couldn't at that point. CoD ends on a cliffhanger and it's great because you don't see it coming and get excited about what's going to happen.
Shit. Shit is going to happen.

There's an episode of Columbo where he talks about wanting to novelize one of his cases, and I can't help wishing the producers had used that as a framing device for an actual Columbo book. Could you imagine? He'd be the most rambling narrator there is.

"I saw the man reach into his left breastpocket - the one with the notch - and I thought to myself, boy, if I smoked little cigarettes like that, I'd try and keep them safe in a sturdier pocket, so they wouldn't get lost, you know... fortunately, with my coat, it's no trouble at all, small cigarettes, cigars, pipes, none of them hardly ever get lost. But when they do, I can always find them in the lining. Anyway, he kept his cigarettes in that notched pocket and that just got me thinking... maybe overthinking, maybe not... but what if... and just bear with me now... what if that man has a coat just like mine? What if he can find things in his lining too, things the police never could? Things like the poisoned cigarette that claimed mr Hollis's life? Boy, that'd be clever..."

Also boiled eggs. Don't forget those important boiled eggs for the late night calls when there's no time for breakfast. The coats pockets are vital!

Anyway, I'm sure the dialogue would've been great as well.

Sounds almost like a cozier version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Sounds about right. Hunter was keen on observations as well.

I love how he non-chalantly cracks them on the murder weapon

Shit. Shit is going to happen.
Nobody played Call of Duty for the story.

For all its flaws as a book (it may be one of the worst slogs I've ever had the displeasure to read through), Atlas Shrugged describes the scariest dystopia I've ever seen - because it's the most realistic one. Ayn Rand describes a world descending in abject decadence by a gradual but inevitable drain in talent, skill and ingenuity caused by pure resentment - and we are on the earlier stages of that already.
