It never occured to me until now, but there's a sense of perfect irony when it comes to comparing the ST to the PT now.
The very first line in the ST is spoken by Max Von Sydow's character:



This was clearly meant as a shot to Lucas over how shit the Prequels were, with the added false sense of "promise" that everything Star Wars going forward would be set straight.
Fast forward to 2019, and JJ directs the worst mainline Star Wars episode ever (thus far), even worse than any of the Prequels AND even TLJ. I love this kind of schadenfreude.
