That's a very apt comparison. Most people were just happy that something nominally capeshit wasn't the worn out le quirky plebbit humor garbage that the last 50 Mahvul capeslop movies were or the teenage edgefag trash DC limply flops onto the screen.
It's really not that deep for the popcorn audience. They just like something plain fun or different every once in a while.

I caught a bit of it at my parent's place and got to see the disappointment in my father's face build up as it went on until he finally switched it off.

He didn't think an Eastwood movie could be that boring and lame. Can't blame him. At least Grand Turtle had casual racism to distract from the gay white saviour by self-sacrifice story.

That’s The Mule. I didn’t like that movie either.

Juror #2 is about a guy getting selected for Jury Duty on a murdered woman case, and as he hears the details he has a growing suspicion he was the one who killed her in a hit and run and not the guy who might be going to jail. So, this fact starts fucking with him, but he also doesn’t want to go to jail.

The prosecutor is running for DA promising to reduce domestic violence, but she also starts to doubt the guilt of the guy she was promising the news she’d lock up. The defense is an overworked public defender and those two also have a friendship.

But then, there’s the question of ‘is the main character remembering this correctly or is he just gaslighting himself?’ The movies really engaging.

Of course, for reference, I enjoyed Gran Torino and would consider that the cutoff for good Eastwood movies.

Grand Tortilla wasn't terrible overall. Even the kind of suicide would make some sense as he was walking dead already.
But the ending of him making the rice nigger boy inherit his shit and his family getting fuckall because they were supposedly terrible felt super forced.

I spent New Year's eve watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with my dad. Nobody does it better than Spielberg.

That film gets such a bad rep, and for what? Because they dared to have a pulp action hero encounter aliens?

It's a joyful adventure, Indy is respected, Sean Connery gets a great tribute, Cate Blanchett is a delightfully evil Soviet baddie. What's not to love?
