Rewatched Casino Royale. I think I appreciate this film much more than I actually enjoy it.

This movie is like 75% double-crossing, doublespeak and innuendo. Which is not bad conceptually for a spy film, but in the end just leaves me slightly irritated as I have to force myself to keep track of all the characters' motivations.

It kinda reminds me of soap actually, with all the character drama plot twists about Vesper(speaking of her, ALL the dialogue between her and Bond is godawful).

That being said, the acting is good, the action scenes are sweet and it's very well directed(by Goldeneye's Martin Campbell). I just wish I was actually invested, rather than spectating.

Oh yeah, and is it just me or is this film dry as an old steak in the humor department? I can't believe I'm saying this, but Quantum Of Solace was ten times livelier than this film.

Exactly. It feels very try-hard to me. Campbell's a good action director but they needed someone who would completely scrub out the Brosnan Bond feel. The only thing I can say for that is you have to appreciate that the last movie was Die Another Day. Eva Green is still the best Bond Girl though, and it was nice to have a low-key villain instead of some dumbshit with a cat and a laser moon.

The movie is really good in all technical aspects, including acting. The writing just isn't really there. Bland bland bland and forgettable. The only thing anyone ever remembers is bond getting roped in the nutsack and drinking salt water to make himself puke out poison.
The writers really slept on this one and the other Craig ones as well, really.

They''ll never be forgiven for toning down Bond's "the bitch is dead" line by having M defend Vesper as a paragon of virtue. She was a traitor who got people killed and would have been fine with Bond being killed. Fuck her.
