Aracade Shmups are basically torture devices designed for pixel fetish masochists. I can toralate games like Lords of Thunder thanks to good music, but all those dumb coin munching arcade shmup craps should be erased from the earth.

If we include arcade games I'd add Midway and Williams to that.
And also Atari? Western classic arcade games would be trully great if they didn't have such a brutal give-me-more-coins difficulty. Or maybe it's just I suck at them.

Gekirindan Rayforce and Elevator Action Returns alone are worth the price, but you also get Darius and tons of other cool shit.
FTFY. I never heard about Gekirindan before but it can't be better than Rayforce because it can't.

Overall, Taito arcade games don't always have top quality when it comes to gameplay, but some of their games have clearly A+ best is the business art/music. I can't and will never be able to beat Rayforce, Warrior Blade, Metal Black, Rainbow Gayland, etc but I still like them for that very reason.

Btw EAR is a really good co-op game. It's a shame lots of great arcade co-ops are overlooked and forgotten. You can revive them with Retronarch netplay though.

Elevator Action Returns sounds like it'd be amazing in co-op. Like I said, it has a lot of early cover shooter type mechanics way before gears of war came along.

So since I'm on a run of new but oldschool FPS games, what's your favourite actual old FPS?
I'll have to go with Doom/Doom 2. Great music, great levels, great speed, good selection of weapons. It's the be all end all classic for me.

Doom 2. Oft imitated but never bested.

Brutal Doom mod is something I've wanted to try for a bit, but then again, trying to improve it by making it every other shooter after doom just seems silly.

There's a thing I really hate about the Brutal Doom mod, which is that it adds reloading. No thanks.
I highly advise playing a source port, turning off all forms of aim assist, no crosshair either and using the Smooth Doom mod. It adds frames of animation to your weapon and enemies. It looks 100% as if they were always meant to be there.

I'm hoping that Nightdive can buy the Blood license. There's a good chance that they will release the source code for it if they do. It's high time for a proper source port. DOSbox just doesn't manage to emulate it quite right.

I fucked off ever getting DOSbox to work or boot old games. I sick at technology. I barely got Classic Wow to work and join a server and now that file is suddenly corrupted and lost.

Theres GUIs for Dosbox but its been so long that I don't remember how anything works.
