Fighting Games
Re: Fighting Games
Talking about healing, Persona 4 Arena (and Ultimax) had characters that could heal. But it was rather balanced and not that bad. There was also blue health that would regenerate with time since some moves required to use health as payment (think focus attacks in SF4)

Well, Persona 4 Arena is also from ArcSys. Seems they know how to do health stuff.
Also interesting to hear they've apparently ported over the SMT concept of (physical) skills costing health instead of MP.

Huh, I wonder... do they have typical ArcSys-style insta-kill moves in the form of the Mudo/Hama spells?

There are typical ArcSys-style insta-kill moves, normally something fan service related with the character, but not Mudo/Hama related (except one i think with Ken).VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 2:12 pmHuh, I wonder... do they have typical ArcSys-style insta-kill moves in the form of the Mudo/Hama spells?
However, there are Hama and Mudo spells for some characters, they act like insta kills, but they have quirks.
Naoto has a death counter, certain attacks from her take away 1 or more death counters (from 13), and when the counter reaches 0 you can use a hama/mudo spell to kill the opponent, if you fail, the death counter resets. Also, hama is a ground spell, and Mudo an air spell.
Elizabeth has Hamaon, and Mudoon, she can only cast them when in critical condition, and they take time to activate. Same, she will put Hamaon in the floor as a magic circle and after a while it will activate killing the opponent if he is on the floor inside the radius, and Mudoon puts a magic circle in the air and after a while it will activate killing the opponent if in the air near the magic circle.

Hey, that's a cool way to differentiate the two elements and get around the random hit chance they have in the JRPGs.

Yep, they did a pretty good job overall with the game.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:11 amHey, that's a cool way to differentiate the two elements and get around the random hit chance they have in the JRPGs.
Also, the powers from the personas are also all related to the game, names, general effects, all of it. And of course each characters moveset is directly related to their moves in the RPGs.
And in the same vein as other AS games, many charaters have their own quirks and special stuff, meters, mechanics, etc. I dont think they are as different as Guilty Gear characters, but its enough to make them different enough.
And of course, the personas, your characters can attack themselves, or use the personas to attack, some characters are more reliant on personas than others, and its a completely new mechanic, since many moves can let you vulnerable in a pose while the persona attacks, others let you move around or in tandem with the persona, there is also the chance to counter other players move by attacking their personas while being summoned, you can also break personas if you attack them enough, making it impossible to use certain moves until they regenerate, and so on.

Re: Fighting Games
Remember when they made Queen of Fighters? Where Kyo was replaced by his girlfriend and the final boss was Iori in drag? Apparently that makes too much sense these days.
And couldn't they, like, instead make some Alternate Reality Garou where Terry trained his own daughter?
