Also apparently Bayonetta is now on Steam. Hope it's got a better port than DMC3.

Runs rather well.

DMC 3 SE was the shit. Can't wait for the girly version.
I remember being a wee lad and playing as Vergil with those sick ass cutscenes. There's no teen boy alive that didn't jump all over that shit in the day. The Beowulf is still my favorite fist weapon in any vidya gaem. The claws in Bayo just aren't as good. IIRC the blademaster style had an oraoraoraora with Beowulf.

Trickster was my shit-> air dodge all day every day. Quicksilver was OP too. Royal Guard was for the Woolies who love >muh parrying.

Has a game come out post-Bayonetta that's even close to as good? I haven't heard of any in the genre. Devil's Third looks like a mess with some ok ideas and Platinum games in general post-Bayo haven't been up to the standard IMO. Revengeance is a good game, but it doesn't feel nearly as deep.

Maybe Anarchy Reigns could have filled the gap if they hadn't tried to Cod Of Duty that shit. The online died super fast and then there was nothing left except a dismal 2-character campaign and multiplayer matches against the CPUs.

Beowulf is like my gold standard for fist weapons. It's so fun. Blademaster with Rebellion and Beowulf is one of my favorite combinations, though the other weapons were also pretty nifty.
I never really warmed up to Royal Guard since "Dodge the fuck out of the way" is too ingrained into my DMC playstyle.

Nothing is sadder than a game that tries to be make its multiplayer srs bsns and then fails because nobody wants to play online.

You can't sell a niche genre game on the strength of online multiplayer. It just doesn't work. Maybe Anarchy Reigns could have stayed alive a bit longer if they'd make it Free2Play after the first six months.

Cerberus and Beowulf were what I used most of the time. I'd swap Cerberus for Rebellion sometimes. Trickster always unless I needed some niche move one of the other styles had, like the sword toss for Blademaster or shotgun nunchucks on Gunslinger.

Holy shit, Bayonetta is one hell of a trip so far. Not really a fan of the shotguns as opposed to the DMC ones, but you can't have everything I guess.

I've been trying to play Skullgirls and mostly failing. I don't like the way the systems work. Even no top-level tourney play, what you constantly see is one player fish around, get a hit and then convert that into 1-2 character deaths. It's so momentum-based that I don't really enjoy it.

It's Mahvel for even bigger fuckboys.

Really, REALLY seems that way. I shat on blazblue and then kind of came around a bit on liking its mechanics and a few of its characters, but I'm not sure that's going to happen here, no matter how much I play. Even on the highest level skill play, it's all totally momentum-based. An EVO blazblue match can go back and forth and the health stockpile really means nothing. With barrier, overdrive and burst, you can easily win on a sliver of health or use a wakeup tool to get up and start your own game. But I don't see that as much with Skullgirls.

I like some of the designs quite a bit, like Beowulf, Big Band, Ms. Fortune, Squiggly, Eliza and Robo Fortune, but the gameplay is mahvel 2 as fuck. I enjoyed mahvel 2 back in the day because of all the characters, but the gameplay was always pretty jank. I also don't like the way they do universal combos. Combos in Blazblue are kind of universal but not really. Certain moves can gatling into others, but it's often not as simple as A->B->C->D -> Special -> Super. It can be with certain easy characters like Ragna, but it often isn't.

It seriously is. About two years ago you'd have people vehemently defending it but that time has also passed. I don't know if it was balance changes or something. But today pretty much everyone agrees that it's basically Mahvel with bullshit touch of death combos.

I set it to 1vs1 and suddenly the game is a lot more tolerable. 1vs1 means no assists and no spamming the screen with horseshit. The game should have a dedicated 1vs1 tourney scene. I bet that would be a lot more interesting to watch. But maybe it would reveal how shitty the 3vs3 is.

Oh, and I love how everyone says all characters are viable, yet you only ever see fucking Fukua, Double and Filia in tourney play, outside of character specialists/loyalists. I swear, almost every tournament team has a fucking Double in there and most have a Fukua. I fucking hate those two characters.
