People mostly only like it because it was the first one they played or it was the first 3d rpg they played, or both. Even if the game was good, which I'm going to maintain it's not, all the media ever produced around FF7 has been absolute max cancer. Advent Children? Crisis Core? That one Ps2 shooter? Hell even FF13 owes a massive debt in shittiness to the designs from FF7. FF6 to FF7 marked a big shift in design sensibilities for FF, and it's one they haven't recovered from. Visually, FF15 is closer to FF7 than any FF game that came before it. That's been true of every 3D final fantasy game, btw, except for POSSIBLY FF9 and FF12, which each have their own specific FF inspirations (FF1 and Tactics, respectively).

Bottom line most FF games suck dick and you should go play Valkyrie Profile or Vagrant Story instead.

Honestly, I can agree with everything you said about all the others, but FFVII is a good game and it's hipster contrarianism to say that it's not. People who say that it's shit usually only say so because everyone else has declared it the best game evar or something.

You mean something like the FIFA games perhaps? I'd actually exclude sports game series. The enjoyment of them largely depends on somebody even liking the sport. But if we were to count FIFA I'd still disagree. They don't change much between games but the core gameplay of each individual one is solid. I'd consider minute improvements as the series goes on better than Final Fantasy appearing as if the developers still haven't figured out how they want to make a battle system for the series.

DQ8 is the only one of the series i played and it was way better than any FF.
Crafting, world as big as a Bugthesta game, some customization for the characters, very nice soundtrack and the kind of plot you find in a fantasy shounen instead of emo autism.
It seems though that all the games of the series are more or less carbon copies of each other

Sanic occurred to me but I didn't say anything, making my thought worthless.
I don't pay attention to vidya anymore, wasn't sure if the official recolors Sanic game was any worse than the others.

Sonic Generations is pretty good and so are the Rush ones. But they could make five more great Sanic games and it'd still be a terrible franchise overall.
