What are you playing?

Talk about the life consuming, celibacy inducing hobby that is all the rage these days.

Yeah old school CoD before all the space bullshit and DLC/MT was pretty good.

If anything, this genre has been plagued by rogue-like and bullet-hell bullshit.
Don't tell me you dislike the most excellent Rabi-Ribi, the most definite of all spiritual successors to SotN?!

Blasphemous looks great, but gameplay-wise, I'm still looking for actual replacement of Castevania: Symphony of the night. That game is simply amazing, but I would love to see some proper followup, there are so many platformers, but doesn't seem like anybody had the balls to copy this particular formula. Stuff like Ori or even Hollow Knight is nice, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. If anything, this genre has been plagued by rogue-like and bullet-hell bullshit.
Aria of Sorrow already exists and if that doesn't tickle your fancy, Harmony of Dissonance is an ok replacement for that kind of stuff.

Blasphemous is quite alright. I just wish it was faster.
It clearly emulates Alucard and his speed from all the games he's been in, which has been the go to for a lot of games that lean more towards the Vania-side of the Metroidvanias. Ori and Hollow Knight for example are more focused on delivering a more Metroid like feeling of pace and speed.

Alucard is considered slow as fuck? He could turn into a doggie.

And then Soma came along and could go super saiyan and fly around the map with an aura around his body like a dbz character. When he wasn't backdashing everywhere.

Backdashing is pretty much the default form of locomotion in these games.

Because he is. Go play it again without any shield cancelling back dashes.

I don't want to break my rose-tinted glasses

Also finally gotten myself Digimon Story Cyber Slut. Just like rabidtictac mentioned, there's definitely some classic SMT vibe in there. Music and presentation are pretty nice as well, even if I suspect this didn't quite have the budget of your Persona. And having your active party follow you around is definitely something Pokemon ought to rip off.
Speaking of Persona: Remember the Shadows? Those non-playable OC monsters? Which are usually some animated object or blob with a lame mask on? This is what Cyber Slut has instead:

Jeebus.
The waifus in this game have some of the weirdest fashion senses I've ever seen, but as long as I can get my hands on my homie Kabuterimon aka Xenomorph Rhino Beetle, I won't complain too much about the animu influences.
