You know things are down bad when the devs start throwing hissy fits in response to negative Steam reviews (ex: "the game only feels boring because you're playing it wrong" & "the game world feels empty because most planets IRL are empty").

Nah, they didn't even get that right. Even the most remote planet or moon somehow has factories or small settlements on it, thanks to the procedural generation.

The issue is they should have focused on one solar system and not tried to make it a galaxy-spanning thing. Then you have the storyline that's basically finding pieces to the gateway to the center of the universe and the question becomes, "why are all these pieces in the Milky Way, then?"

Oh, and the first one discovered is always on Mars and somehow when the scientist touches it he sees a version of himself tell him how to build the technology to travel the stars but he somehow doesn't tell him how to fix it to not destroy the atmosphere on Earth. It's fine, though, once it's too late for Earth they just... update windows, or something, and it won't ever happen again, apparently.

And 90% of what people do in day-to-day life is boring or unpleasant. Does that mean games should accurately simulate this as well? Can't wait for the next "sitting on the bus, trying not to make eye contact with creepy drug addicts" simulator to come out.
