Or they could have gone the Devil Survivor route and give you static party members without fixed personas or fixed elemental alignments. Maybe each party member could have had an empty "persona" slot, to be filled by whatever demon you want.

That's how the first two Personas did it, didn't they? It was only starting with P3 that they decided having more than one fully-customizable character was too gatekeeping.

And Devil Survivor is pretty cool with the way you're essentially controling multiple squads of classic SMT parties.
