I'm aware of the different armor sets for ranged dudes. I've just never mained a ranged weapon, only really using them for tutorials and arena challenges.
Dunno if I'd try HBG since I always feel that one makes you a bit too slow for solo stuff.

Normal Lance was fucking rad in MH4U. Second best jumper after the bug stick, and tanky af. Mained the shit out of it back then.

Depends on the game. For most of them I'd say it is too slow. But in Gen and GenU you've got the dodge style (Bushido in English, I believe). Rolling shortly before an attack hits makes you dodge leap out of the way with massive i-frames and immediately power reload for more damage, holding the button down makes you power sprint after the leap a good distance. Once you learn what to dodge and what to dodge sprint it's a very viable solo weapon.

Yeah, I did the same. In Gen the whole mounting mechanic isn't as vital anymore and GL is greatly buffed with some super fun styles. But in 4U anything that can't mount easily is already at a disadvantage and GL being a full tier behind in damage of lance made the decision easy.

IG is omega overpowered in 4U. If you use the currently highest one you can build with an element the monster is weak to every hunt feels like Great Jaggy.

Hammer feels like that too for me. In every MH game. Because you can easily stunlock the shit out of monsters if you use it correctly. Even when you hit the wrong targets, you're still doing hundreds of damage per hit. So odds are decent even stray hits will knock them off their feet and let you pound their heads.
