That comparison doesn't work. A waifu, unlike actual women, can be pure.

It's the same system that Morrowind has; use a weapon or a spell until the mastery goes up, and receive stats bonuses by doing so.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 6:26 amFinal Fantasy 2 aka Saga 0.5. It's not as bad as I was expecting. The leveling system isn't good, but it's not as much different as you might have been told.
But for some reason the same people who think that Morrokek is an unsurpassed masterpiece also label FF2 as the worst in the series, when it's one of the few good ones.

Well, I was impressed with the competence of the story. It has some obscure triggers and doesn't hold your hand, but it is unrelenting in its themes.Complicity wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 11:54 amIt's the same system that Morrowind has; use a weapon or a spell until the mastery goes up, and receive stats bonuses by doing so.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 6:26 amFinal Fantasy 2 aka Saga 0.5. It's dem memes, man.
Except Morrowind skills don't go down if you grind an opposing skill.Complicity wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 11:54 amIt's the same system that Morrowind has; use a weapon or a spell until the mastery goes up, and receive stats bonuses by doing so.

Re: What are you playing?
Oh come on, Complicity, I've never heard anyone praise the fucky levelling system of Morrowind. The expansive open world that was mostly interesting was the main draw and while Daggerfall is the better and much more vast game it was a milestone as a 3D RPG of it's time.
Back then most 3D games had blatant flaws that were forgiven because they offered stuff never seen before and made vidya look like you could make basically anything happen. It was an exciting time where devs were just trying out all kinds of things.
I hate how pretentious that sounds but it's true.

Me neither, but i also never heard any Spoony wannabe bitching about it (Morrowind being a sacred cow is part of the reason), while "it's shite because the levelling system is weird and hard to understand" is all the criticism of FF2 i have ever heard from PedoJared and his clones.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 3:17 amOh come on, Complicity, I've never heard anyone praise the fucky levelling system of Morrowind.

They hate it because it's different. Though I bet they would be confused by Original FF1 and 3 as well because those games have D&D-style spell slots instead of MP.

Re: What are you playing?
The funny thing is a lot of people love the SaGa series. Particularly Saga 2, 3, Romancing Saga 3, and the Romancing Saga ps2 remake. These games use basically the same system as FF2, except polished up a bit. Oh, and in the Advance version of FF2 (and PSP version as well,) You can no longer get negative attributes. So there's no way to screw yourself. If you keep playing FF2, you WILL keep getting levels and you WILL get stronger. The remakes patched out the ability to hit yourself to gain HP, too.
The gameplay isn't as good as the more class-based/job-based FF gameplay, but it's hardly unplayable. Like I said before, it may be a bad game after all is said and done. But it's ambitious, has fantastic music and a great story by NES standards. The worst thing about FF2 is the encounter rate. There's no cooldown period between getting out of an encounter and getting into another, and random battles can be harder than bosses. So you frequently fight a long, grueling random battle, finally get out alive, heal up, then take LITERALLY ONE SINGLE STEP and get another that's just as hard. That shit? That is fucking cancer. It's why two of my characters know Teleport and everyone knows Cure.
The random encounter rate is bullshit in FF1 also. FF1 is worse in every way except character progression. I will admit that being able to choose your party and rank them up to prestige classes is a substantial improvement over FF2, though.
TBH, if you want to play old, class-based FF, just play FFV. I'm almost done with my recent playthrough of that game. It's not too long and it lends itself to challenge playthroughs like Four Job Fiesta, permanent jobs, solo character challenge etc. You can play the game like FF1 if you want, it just has way more depth and fewer broken (non-functional) mechanics. Additionally, FFV is way better about telling you where to go without ever holding your hand or railroading you the way FF games after VII did.
You know what is a bad game? FF3 on DS. That shit is un-fucking-playable. It runs at 14 FPS max, features tons of load times and has an awful aesthetic.

It's kind of autistic, but I somewhat enjoyed how the early game fetchquests in FF2 force you to get familiar with the ferry, airship and land routes around Fynn. It felt like I was learning a bus route or a morning commute. When the cities all got bombed to shit, I felt bad, because I had been through those places several times and chatted to the NPCs for hints about where to go. After the bombings, there are no more NPCs outside because they've all been killed.
