If they ever got rid of piracy for good they'd just go back to complaining about people selling used copies.
Maybe it's not as much of an issue now that content is sold via digital rental that you don't actually own but the shit is still out there.

As long as vidya is digital, you can copy it. Anything set into place to prevent it from playing can be broken. The only way they could fully stop it would be to have most of the game sit on a server like in MMOs. Good luck making that a standard. Also great way to ensure it's going to have no historic merit whatsoever.

Distraint Deluxe Edition is currently free at GOG.
It's supposedly a 2D horror game in the style of a novella with some puzzles. Looks interesting enough for free.
