I never read the mango, but at least the animu gave reasons why the protagonist spared the main villain (they had a Batman/Joker relationship, and on top of that they were twins).

Here we have a fugly, unlikable dyke on roids sparing a fugly, unlikable ma'am on roids because revenge after carnage is bad at least he didn't vote for Trump.

The manga goes far, far deeper into that. The anime is a very bad adaptation and misses a lot of the themes as well as trying to compress various aspects of the manga that were EXTREMELY controversial for tv to air.

Unfortunately, Nippon loved the first game because it told an emotional otosan-daughteru story in a zombie apocalypse and they've never seen that beforethey know jack shit about the walking dead so it's not surprising and well...if you've seen how the west reacted to the game, the nips were genuinly soul crushed, some even spent some moments "praying" using Ellie for Joel. But then again, reajus and girls over there love those sappy emotional stories and since it's a western story, the fruit is extra tasty since it's foreign.

Oh and everyone was shocked that Ellie is angry bitch lesbo because no one played the first game's DLC. Not many were happy to see their pure daughteru be this degenerate.
