I'll give them a try eventually. Generally speaking, I'm not the biggest fan of real time CRPGs so EotB isn't a favourite of mine either.

Memory was precious on floppies so they kept text as short as possible wherever they could. It's really still designed largely as a game you take notes yourself for. Ideally, you'll also map it out because the automap isn't exactly the greatest thing either.
In the first few games you absolutely had to do that stuff. No way around it. It's actually pretty chill if you like that kinda thing.

One of my favourite DOS games in that regard is Mean Streets, the first Tex Murphy game. It's part flight simulator, really. You MUST take notes of names of people, locations and their coordinates, things to ask for and who stand in what relation to other people. So while you're letting the autopilot fly you to your next place, you'll likely scribble some notes down about things you've learned and what new clues could tell you.
You also have an assistant you can call to give you information about companies mentioned or to look up an address. You've also got an information specialist you can pay with your advance that will try to find out where people that don't want to be found are and whatnot.

You really feel like you're actually doing detective work. It's awesome and doesn't get much credit but is super worth a playthrough. I took actual notes on paper and would even take the note pad with me to work to contemplate some stuff. You'll take about two or three days for the game. I think I took somewhere around 12 hours total, maybe less. I ended up with a dozen notepad pages of stuff that will never make sense to anyone but me and satisfied from a totally new gameplay experience.
Tex Murphy  I watched a playthrough of Under a Killing Moon and loved it.

Just started playing Resident Evil 4, bought from Steam and it runs well, though the controls do feel a little akward at times, gonna play it with a controller next.

Star Ocean First Departure. It's the psp remake of star ocean 1. TBH it's just star ocean 1's story bolted onto star ocean 2's engine. It's fine. I've got my final party all set up. Game is pretty short. I kind of miss the days of missable characters in rpgs and when the games didn't have objective markers to show you where to go. If you don't pay attention during dialogue, you'll have no idea what to do. Arc the Lad 2 is kind of the same way, except that game had fewer locations and no random battles, so wandering around lost wasn't really punished.

Waifus were better back then too.

Real-time CRPGs with first-person controls are friggin' weird for me. Especially if the controls are like 100% mouse. Weeeeird.

They seem to have been replaced by bunny girls. (ff 12 and DQ11 for example)

Viera are trash-tier, even in their more moe Advanced incarnation. Don't know anything DQ11, though, but the waifus there can't possibly compare to Playboy Bunny Bulma from Vanilla Dragon Ball.

lol ALL the girls look like that, DQ11 is basically dbz characters in a jrpg XD

I loved the dudes', akira toriyama?, style all the way back when I fell in love with chrono trigger. Then i basically liked DBZ because the characters looked like Crono/Magus lol and then I found out it was the same creator.

Ever since then every project his "art style" is involved with I lose a bit more respect for the guy, all his characters look the exact same.

The main hero in DQ11 is basically a copy of android 17. (or whatever the number was of the android paired with the blond after gero)
The girls all have the dbz design though so they probably look exactly like that bulma, in tradition jap pervert style you can even collect swimsuit or bunny suit costumes XD

Did that one really look like that? That's not even a proper Playboy Bunny. Also her Divine Bustier is way better.
