V was prett darn ballsy for a classic Mega Man title.
You like Robot Masters? Fuck you, we have alien robots now, and they don't use your precious "Something Man" naming convention.
You like Charge Shots ? Fuck you, have a Rocket Punch instead.
You like Rush? Fuck you, here's a kitty cat.
They really played with the formula. The rocket punch charge shot is way more interesting than the standard op charged blast. But even in IV GB, they were trying to balance the charge shot by introducing knockback, which made it hard to use while platforming. The rocket punch is so much cleverer though. There's a reason to use standard shots sometimes and they even made a couple of enemies/bosses resist rocket punch damage, which means they only take 1 damage from a charged attack. Again, you're given reason to play with your other tools. The stardroid (robot master) weapons are awesome, so you have plenty of options.
Mighty No. 9 was the result of giving someone a shitzillion dollars on blind faith and just assuming they'd use it well. DHI is proof that nobody can be trusted with internet money. Shame the rest of the plebs had to spend millions to find that out.

That whole Dickstarter coasted off of "muh precious OG Mega Man designer", and nobody thought about hiring actual programmers and designers worth a damn.
