Dead Horse Interchange

On the surface level it is faithful but it lacks the details like The Scrapyard being a shithole (it's more like a nice, colourful shanty town presented as this nice place that is a little bad at night) and Hugo's character is way more shallow than it is in the original. Hugo is just some random pretty boy Alita falls in love with because he's the first boy she sees, in the manga she fell madly in love with him because he had ambition to go to Tiphares/Zalem. Hugo steals mechanical body parts instead of human spines (making him less of an asshole, he's more of a petty thief) and his reason to even go to Tiphares wasn't made clear at all, he just felt like going there. And when he tries to climb up there he only does it because he has to otherwise he will get caught and killed, while in the anime and manga he goes insane realising he was lied to and will never go there and starts climbing up like a deluded madman.

Nova is still a fucking Tipharen and is in charge of what goes up there. WHAT. THE. FUCK. That guy is a mad scientist who ends up rebelling against that city by red pilling the fuck out of them, the movie makes him out to be the final boss for the next movie who is in charge of Tiphares. He isn't a good guy at all, he is meant to be a harsh contrast to Ido if he went mad and had no morality at all, Nova just did science experiments out of curiosity regardless whether people died or not and was anarchistic as all hell. Here he is the authoritarian ruling in the shadows looking down on the scrapyard, that's a complete bastardisation of the character who found out the truth and went mad and left. Any following movie will shit on his character even more.

The rest of the characters, including Alita, are true to themselves though. The world building though is just shit compared to the original, the tone is all wrong and Cameron clearly wants to show off his VFX. The James Cameron who made the original Terminator movies would have done a better job, the Future War parts have the tone Alita should have.
