Anyone here actually see Alita? Is it any good?
No and likely not.

Marzie desperately wants to feel ProJared's cock and everyone directly involved in the IN universe is an insane mess.

Yeah, it's not bad. This is easily the best of the Hollywood anime adaptations.
I'd definitely recommend it for a rental at the very least.

I once read about the head of MENSA complaining that members were only interested in solving puzzles and not "changing the world." Like yeah, dipshit. IQ tests measure how good you are at taking tests, not your empathy, initiative, or resourcefulness.
The fact that they don't want to help anybody is what makes them geniuses in the first place.

But with the source material they had to work with it should have been brilliant instead of just good. Unlike other adaptions it is faithful to the original but it is not executed as well, I understand how fans of The Watchmen felt about the movie adaption now since the criticism I heard about that one compared to the original apply here.

They have barely showed Desty Nova but his character is already fucking butchered, I do not want a sequel since I fear his entire character will be shat on since it's obvious that they based the movie on the anime and added little bits of the manga to it to flesh it out to 2 hours. Without that base to work with they will be fucked since they clearly don't get Nova at all.

The anime OVA is superior to the movie, and the manga shits all over that too. The lack of an R rating also hurt the movie as well as they had to tone shit down which fucks up the theme of machines being way stronger than flesh.
SpoilerShow
On the surface level it is faithful but it lacks the details like The Scrapyard being a shithole (it's more like a nice, colourful shanty town presented as this nice place that is a little bad at night) and Hugo's character is way more shallow than it is in the original. Hugo is just some random pretty boy Alita falls in love with because he's the first boy she sees, in the manga she fell madly in love with him because he had ambition to go to Tiphares/Zalem. Hugo steals mechanical body parts instead of human spines (making him less of an asshole, he's more of a petty thief) and his reason to even go to Tiphares wasn't made clear at all, he just felt like going there. And when he tries to climb up there he only does it because he has to otherwise he will get caught and killed, while in the anime and manga he goes insane realising he was lied to and will never go there and starts climbing up like a deluded madman.

Nova is still a fucking Tipharen and is in charge of what goes up there. WHAT. THE. FUCK. That guy is a mad scientist who ends up rebelling against that city by red pilling the fuck out of them, the movie makes him out to be the final boss for the next movie who is in charge of Tiphares. He isn't a good guy at all, he is meant to be a harsh contrast to Ido if he went mad and had no morality at all, Nova just did science experiments out of curiosity regardless whether people died or not and was anarchistic as all hell. Here he is the authoritarian ruling in the shadows looking down on the scrapyard, that's a complete bastardisation of the character who found out the truth and went mad and left. Any following movie will shit on his character even more.

The rest of the characters, including Alita, are true to themselves though. The world building though is just shit compared to the original, the tone is all wrong and Cameron clearly wants to show off his VFX. The James Cameron who made the original Terminator movies would have done a better job, the Future War parts have the tone Alita should have.

The visual tone of Alita is off but Cameron caught a case of the Spielbergs and has to put dreamy vistas into everything. The scrap yard should look more like Afghanistan than todays Brazil.

Of course he did. It's the hip thing to do if you're lazy and have too many million bucks to throw around for CGI.

Did Death Nova eat flan in the moobie?
Of course he didn't, and he looked worse than a fucking cosplayer in it. Edward Norton is a good actor who could play the ACTUAL role well but he will have garbage material to work with in a sequel.

Poonoo, everything you've said makes me want to check out the manga, it sounds like legitimately great sci-fi.
