Yeah Master System's the 8bit one. Mega Drive is the Euro Genesis.
You got it the wrong way around. Genesis is the burger Mega Drive. No idea why Sega USA thought it needed to have a bible name for you guys. Everywhere else it had it's better, proper name.
They wanted to call it the Mega Drive but their was a trademark issue in the USA so they called it the Genesis. Which means Mega Drive is the real name, deal with it burgers.

It honestly doesn't matter because the mega drive/genesis itself doesn't matter. Most of the good games were ported to modern consoles after sega got out of the console game and the library isn't that impressive tbh. Genesis had some great beat em ups for a console, but the only ones that even begin to touch arcade quality brawlers are Streets of Rage 1 and 2. Golden Axe 3 is surprisingly good, but it's not better than Final Fight, Knights of the Round or the other gold standard capcom beat em ups.
Even on the NES, you had the best beat em up ever made: River City Ransom.
SNES beat the shit out of genesis on platformers and rpgs every day of the week. Scrolling shooters? NES had contra and super c. SNES had contra 3. Shmups? Bruh. Gradius, R-Type 3 and all the other japanese ones (can't remember the names and I refuse to call them by their slave names a la "Life Force") that were translated to nes and snes.
So what genre of games did Genesis do better than anyone else? I honestly can't think of one. Genesis had shinobi 3, but nintendo had castlevania and ninja gaiden. For that matter, let's not forget the huge franchise that was mega man back in the NES and SNES eras. Mega Man X >>>>>>> majority of action games in genesis' library.
There were some HIDDEN JEMS like Ristar and Dynamite Heddy (hidden in the sense of not being hidden at all,) but nes/snes had kirby, which beats the pants off ristar.
Just like the dreamcast, it was a very mediocre system. But at least the dreamcast could play arcade fightan games.

But the Genesis has great JRPGs like Phantasy Star IV and... that's it, basically.

Genesis had really good sports games at a time when there was actual competition in the sports game market.

Sports, yes, with the exception of soccer. International Superstar Soccer was so much better than Fifa 96.
